New Insights into Sinus Venosus Defects from Cross-Sectional Imaging

چکیده
Sinus venosus defects include two varieties, superior and inferior sinus defects. The defect is characterized by abnormal communication between closely related venoatrial structures: 1) the normally positioned vena cava-right atrium complex 2) right pulmonary vein-left that displaced leftward, forward upward. Inferior primarily involve atrial junction while can also be affected. Because of rarity wide variation defects, morphological characterization inconsistent among investigators often inaccurate. Modern imaging technologies with high spatial temporal resolutions have allowed accurate detailed assessment pathological anatomy in larger numbers cases. In this pictorial essay, we revisit established controversial features venous using two-dimensional (2D) three-dimensional (3D) images obtained magnetic resonance (MR) or computed tomography (CT) brief discussion on treatment strategies.

Anatomical criteria for the diagnosis of sinus venosus defects.
BACKGROUND The diagnosis of sinus venosus defects remains a matter of debate. It is crucial to provide solid anatomical criteria, by identifying the very nature of the atrial septum relative to sinus venosus defects, to diagnose and differentiate them from other interatrial communications. OBJECTIVE This study was designed to reestablish the anatomical criteria for the diagnosis of sinus veno...
متن کاملSinus venosus atrial septal defects: surgical follow-up.
OBJECTIVE To assess early and later results after surgery for sinus venous atrial septal defects (ASDs). METHODS Forty-four patients of sinus venosus ASDs with anomalous drainage of the right superior pulmonary vein into the superior vena cava, were operated upon between January 1985 and June 1995. Defects were approached by an incision starting from the tip of the right atrial appendage then...

A 32-year-old man presented at the cardiology department for a routine check-up. He had no symptoms, particularly no cardio logical symptoms. Clinical examination and ECG revealed no abnormalities. Transthoracic echocardiography showed a mild dilatation of the right heart. Further functional evaluation of the right heart was performed with MRI to evaluate the presence of a left to right shunt a...

Sinus of Valsalva aneurysm, dilatation of one or more of the aortic sinuses, is a rare but important aortic root defect, which can be a cause of some serious cardiac sequels. The purpose of this article is to review the etiopathogenesis, relevant anatomy, clinical manifestations, potential complications, multimodality imaging features, and management of this rare but important entity of sinus o...
متن کاملPersistent right sinus venosus valve.
A 13-year-old girl presented with clinical features of pulmonary stenosis and regurgitation. Haemodynamic studies suggested the presence of a right ventricular tumour. M-mode and two dimensional echocardiograms indicated one or probably two soft thin walled structures originating from the right atrium. At operation a persistent right sinus venosus valve was removed. One earlier case report desc...
